I called up ironphoenix today for gaming, and beable -- but she wasn't interested available -- and we had dinner then played a couple games. We tried both Glory to Rome and Ys two-player (GtR is 2-6 and Ys is 2-4). Both were interesting games, and both played reasonably well two-player. Also, both look to be interesting with more players as well. I'm inclined to feel that Glory to Rome will turn out to be clearly better with more players, while I'm not sure for Ys. Ys does use a "phantom" third player to keep things interesting.

[edit] Or maybe, for some bizarre reason, she considered sleep to be more important than games. I just don't understand. [/edit]

I haven't played Diplomacy in ages. But it takes a long time to play. And has player elimination. But... Gunboat Diplomacy. That's a thought. It should bring the playing time WAY down... probably under 2 hours.

How is it different? Well, you eliminate the Diplomacy phase. You may NOT talk to the other players. All you can do is write orders and submit orders. You want to offer someone an alliance? Well, all you can do is write orders... maybe a support order would be a good choice? No table talk allowed either. None. No discussion of tactical possibilities. You can talk about anything other than the game in process.

Anyone interested?

I went climbing again today -- this time not wearing the cast, but instead wearing a hiking boot, tightly laced, on my left ankle. This seemed to work pretty well, actually. The hiking boot is far more useful than the cast for holds, and I climbed pretty well. I did back off on one move (on a 5.10a) that I felt was too risky -- it was a power move on my left foot, with a poor hold that I was worried about slipping off and then hurting myself. But, I was glad to make it that far on the route. And, I did a few things, without pain, that I wasn't sure I would be able to do. I did, though, place my left foot VERY carefully when I was placing it on holds. (Actually, that is good practice, I should always place my feet carefully, it is an important climbing skill.)
