Gunboat Diplomacy?

dagibbsI haven't played Diplomacy in ages. But it takes a long time to play. And has player elimination. But... Gunboat Diplomacy. That's a thought. It should bring the playing time WAY down... probably under 2 hours.
How is it different? Well, you eliminate the Diplomacy phase. You may NOT talk to the other players. All you can do is write orders and submit orders. You want to offer someone an alliance? Well, all you can do is write orders... maybe a support order would be a good choice? No table talk allowed either. None. No discussion of tactical possibilities. You can talk about anything other than the game in process.
