Last New Year's, leolac made a resolution to read 100 books over the course of the year. (And she has succeeded.) In looking at this, and looking at the fact that I'm not reading as many books as I used to, I thought I'd make a similar commitment to reading. But, I subscribe to the Economist, and read it cover to cover, weekly, and I don't want to give up reading it or reading it on a relatively timely basis. So, I'm going to consider my weekly economist to be the equivalent of a book, and try to get 50 books [edit] in addition to the Economist [/edit] read in the upcoming year. (Too bad I won't be able to count the several books I'll get read this week... today I've already read on, Ethics Without Ontology [by Hilary Putnam], and have started on [edit] and finished before bed[/edit] a second.)

Um, sweetie? If you count the weekly reading of the economist as a book, then you'll have read 52 books by the end of the year without reading any new books. Is there a math issue here?

I was wondering when he would pick that up, lol.

Perhaps he should shoot for 75, but he wouldn't have that problem at all - he can read a book or two on a business trip, and he takes several of them throughout a year.

What he can do is make reading dates, =D.

Actually, I am planning for the 50 (or so, I think they skip one week around Christmas) Economists + 50 books, give a total of 100 book-equivalents.
