I'm in a Hampton Inn in Lake Placid, and going to climb Chapel Pond Slab (and probably other stuff) with Chantalle tomorrow. The hotel has a free hot breakfast, and it is even early enough (6am) that we can get started at a decent (for climbing) time. Yay. This is way more civilized than driving down morning of the climbing, and I used points so the stay is free, too. Travel points.

In other news, I've had a work trip to Taiwan approved for mid-October, and have that booked in business class, so crossing the Pacific won't be utterly horrible.

Enjoy!

As chain hotels go, Hampton is our preferred option; they do most things pretty consistently well in our experience!

Say hello to the giant crocodile for me!

Travel points! Do you get yours from work for personal use? Just curious.

Yes, any travel points I accumulate as a result of work travel, I get to keep.

Theoretically, I have to declare them to CRA as income. (e.g. the hotel room I just got for free has a nominal value of $200 US, so I should declare $200 as income.) I don't know if anyone actually does so. (Also, I'd have to track which points were from personal vs work travel to properly determine which bits count as income, and which don't.)

Yes, that sounds like it would get very complicated rather quickly.
