But the fun isn't done. BBQ then more gaming, I expect this evening. :)

Looking at my historical record (that is, my collection of old badges), I've now attended Cangames 10 times: 83-89 and 2007-2009.

I finished off today with Diplomacy, where I had the unfortunate draw of Italy -- it didn't go so well. (Essentially 5th of 7.) Then played History of the World, where sucky dice rolls kept me down.

Your dice-rolling skills are impressive, yes; I recall a couple of command rolls in DBA!

HotW is a game that I find long, but light; in good company, it's quite pleasant. Diplomacy, I very seldom get a chance to play, and it's often frustrating: it's an elimination game in which a player can get stuck in a holding pattern with no real hope of winning for far too long.

Yes, long but light would fit.

And, yes, to the player elimination, or near elimination, issue. A modern game wouldn't be designed that way. Yet Diplomacy does hold up very well for such an old game design, it was truly a brilliant game design.

So what were you doing Cangames weekend from 1990 to 2006?

I think I did an SF convention or two those weekends, Work trips. I think there were bridge tournaments. Not entirely sure.
