Not a government worker... (I wish!) But to my knowlege, federal employees don't. Provincial employees could get it *if* they don't already get Easter Monday or August Civic Holiday - if they get one of those, then they already met the new provincial "quota" of days.
Personally, I wrote it into my contract last year - along with Easter & August - I just give myself *everything* paid. :)
I was under the impression that August Civic Holiday isn't *actually* a provincial holiday. It doesn't seem to be on the list for the Ontario labour board at least.
Anyway, don't tell my employer about all of this ;)
It's not. It's a optional extra one - so is Easter Monday.
Family Day is sort of optional too - for employers who only met the bare minimum of obligatory days, Family Day is one more mandatory Day. (I *think* it went from 8 mandatory days to 9) But for employers who already had a 9th day in August Civic or Easter Monday (or who had all 10), then it's optional - as long as they are giving their employees the new mandatory 9 days, it doesn't have to be Family Day. It depends on what is in their contract.
Mine goes to 11. :) Hey, what's an extra paid stat between self-employed people?
All my employers have always just either given me the time off or the time and a half + stat for all of them. So yes, don't start spreading that info around ;)
