So, you federal employees on my flist -- do you get family day off, or not?

Note: it is February 16th.

Not a government worker... (I wish!)
But to my knowlege, federal employees don't.
Provincial employees could get it *if* they don't already get Easter Monday or August Civic Holiday - if they get one of those, then they already met the new provincial "quota" of days.

Personally, I wrote it into my contract last year - along with Easter & August - I just give myself *everything* paid. :)

I was under the impression that August Civic Holiday isn't *actually* a provincial holiday. It doesn't seem to be on the list for the Ontario labour board at least.

Anyway, don't tell my employer about all of this ;)

It's not.
It's a optional extra one - so is Easter Monday.

Family Day is sort of optional too - for employers who only met the bare minimum of obligatory days, Family Day is one more mandatory Day. (I *think* it went from 8 mandatory days to 9) But for employers who already had a 9th day in August Civic or Easter Monday (or who had all 10), then it's optional - as long as they are giving their employees the new mandatory 9 days, it doesn't have to be Family Day. It depends on what is in their contract.

Mine goes to 11. :) Hey, what's an extra paid stat between self-employed people?

Oh yeah, this is only Ontario employers of which I speak.

All my employers have always just either given me the time off or the time and a half + stat for all of them. So yes, don't start spreading that info around ;)

Alas, no. It's not in the collective agreements, therefore the feds do not get it. Those are long since past due to be renegotiated, though, so maybe this will change eventually.

Not as such, but last year about half my office took it off as either family leave (if they had kids) or vacation.

When is it this year?

Weird. I thought it was a stat holiday. *shrug* my work is closed that day, but I'm not gov't.

It's a Provincial Holiday, like Civic in August. Our Collective Agreement lists all the paid holidays we get, including Christmas and Boxing Day. I used to think it was automatic...[shrug]

From what I've heard, we're not likely to get it in the next Agreement either.

Provincial labour laws don't apply to federal employees (or for Ottawa bus drivers apparently).
