and the phone doesn't work
Nov. 18th, 2008 08:09 pmTried the hotel's suggested procedure -- get the operator, have the operator dial the number and connect me. Tried. Gave the number, he connects something and the phone makes a high-pitched machine scream. Hang-up, try again. He says that number is not in service/doesn't connect. I verify on canada411, yup, got the right number, try again. Nope no connection. Shit.

In theory, if you enter 000-167 (that is the India access number) into a telephone which is connected to an outside line, it should connect you to the Canada Direct portal as a toll-free (or local call equivalent) call. Follow the reasonably easy directions from there. I use my calling card but it's supposed to work for collect and bill-my-number calls, too.
