What is it?

My room had this piece of... well... it had this thing in it. I'm not sure what it is. Any ideas?

Strange Hotel Room Furniture

The black lines across the top of the surface are actually slightly raised bumps, rather than flush.

Modern art? Musical instrument?

Did the long poles slide up and down? Along the slots?

The vertical poles didn't move up and down easily -- I did try. The black lines aren't slots -- they're slightly raised bumps.

Clearly a laptop/book holder. The bumps are there to increase friction because things fall off flat surfaces. The aluminum-coloured poles are lightening rods for protecting the laptop.

LOL! I love the lightning rods idea.

I wanna say it's some kind of luggage holder... you put the handles of your luggage behind the poles?

You might have been able to slip luggage handles behind the poles... if the handles were thinnish. But, it would have been awkward.

I guess I'm thinking more like duffel bag with a shoulder strap... 'cause I have one of those that has a handle and wheels like it's designed to be a carry on.

Brilliant! An end-table you can set a pen on and it won't roll off and land under the bed!

I think I've seen one before.

No idea what it is though.

It's a 3D puzzle!
(Have you solved it yet?)

Nope. Do you know the solution?

I once found the severed lower torso & legs of a mannequin in my room in NYC.

It was creepy until the hotel staff explained we were in the centre of the fashion district, and a lot of their guests were from HongKong selling fabric, and carried mannequins in cases for draping.

Still... creepy.

Yours looks like much more fun. :)

That would be creepy, yes.

It is a play room for the Little People.

I am inclined to agree with the laptop station idea (there is a 'mousehole' in the wall to put your power cord through). The real question is the height of the 'furniture' - if you were sitting on a chair, is your computer in a comfortable position?

My other suggestion would be a 'charging station'. A place to put you laptop, cell phone, iPod, etc. while charging the batteries. The poles are to loop the cords around so they aren't dangling and pulling things to the floor. (Again, the 'mousehole' is a clue. It keeps the cords out of the way so you don't kick them.)

There is no easily available power close to it. There was, also, a desk in another part of the room that had an obvious desk lamp, plugs at desk level, etc.

stylish suitcase table.

Typically they give you those folding things - which are a good ides - because the world is seeing a resurgence of bedbugs. Bedbugs hitch rides and lay eggs in suitcases which are laid down on the floor or on beds. Keeping them elevated on tables with slippery legs reduces the risk.

That had been my thought as well -- though the fact that it is actually connected to the (not non-slippery wall) reduces the anti-bedbug advantages. And it was a touch small for a decent-sized suitcase, though that would be hard to tell from the picture.

It looks like it would be about right for a carry-on-sized suitcase.

diaper change table?

Probably not, I'll go with a laptop table. Ridges help keep a slight ventilation underneath.
