While I was in California, I went to Mecca, that is, to Fry's Electronics.

While I was there, I picked up a few classic strategy games -- mostly in multi-game boxed sets. (Which means I did get a couple games I wasn't really looking for, like Risk II.) What I did get were:

Europa Unversalis
Patrician II
Civilisation II
Age of Empires
Majesty

I'm currently learning how to play Europa Universalis.

If you end up liking EU1...

(I am a BIG Paradox games fan).

I have Europa Universalis II (EU redone on a whole world scale) , Hearts of Iron (WWII era), Victoria (Queen Victoria's reign up until WWI) and Crusader Kings (the Crusades - cool thing is that CK exports your game to make an EU2 scenario so you can play 1066-1819!

1.) ignore the manual(s) for the most part

2.) download the latest patches. With most games: lots of patches means bug issues - with Paradox, the first patch deals with any bugs, subsequent patches deal with more detail and the game(s) being balance balanced to perfection. EU2 1.08 is considered a finished masterpiece for instance. :)

2.) use http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/ to get all the info that you need on any of their games (lots of FAQs and people that know their Paradox games and willing to answer questions). If you are wondering, my logon there is ConcordantNexus :)

3.) I'm willing to burn you copies of EU2 and HoI since they are hard to find. If you want Vicky or CK, I'll ask that you buy them to support Paradox.

4.) Remember that your gf is called Donna, not EU, not EU2, not CK, not Vicky: her name is Donna! ;)

I've been to Paradox's forums already. Thanks.

EU came as release 1.07c when I got it -- so pretty late in the patches. I'd already updated to 1.10 (which is the latest around), but thanks for the recommendation.

I didn't know I should ignore the manuals...but I did find the EU manual was a nice discussion of how they were simulating stuff, but not very good about how to use the interface/play the game itself.

Thanks for the offer on EU2 an HoI. I may ask in the future -- but I'm ok with what I have right now.
