I had to keep saying that to myself even more in Norway than in the UK. I translated my total budget into kroner at the beginning and then tried really hard not to think about dollars!

Are there still lire? Translating into lire was always more fun. ;-)

No, lire no longer exist, Italy uses the Euro. When I was there, though, they existed -- lire -> dollar was easy, just divide by 1000. :)

I was a little worried going into Norway from Britain, because my English friends went on and on about how expensive Norway was.
I found that the youth hostel prices were reasonable, and groceries not too far off English prices. Going to a restaurant was out of reach though.
