Remember you have a weight limit flying across the Atlantic and shipping costs money.

I think he's talking about how expensive things are, not taking a shopping spree.

What she said.

Breakfast buffet -- daily, not particularly special -- 13.95. Pounds. $28. Yowza.

Ah sticker shock, good think you are on company time, do you have a per diem?

From: [identity profile] dagibbs.livejournal.com
No, not per diem -- actual expenses.

Well that sounds pretty good.

Does it cover room and board or other things too?

Other "neccessary" expenses -- gas, car rental, etc. Not entertainment expenses like movies, books, etc.

I had to keep saying that to myself even more in Norway than in the UK. I translated my total budget into kroner at the beginning and then tried really hard not to think about dollars!

Are there still lire? Translating into lire was always more fun. ;-)

No, lire no longer exist, Italy uses the Euro. When I was there, though, they existed -- lire -> dollar was easy, just divide by 1000. :)

I was a little worried going into Norway from Britain, because my English friends went on and on about how expensive Norway was.
I found that the youth hostel prices were reasonable, and groceries not too far off English prices. Going to a restaurant was out of reach though.

It's easy to translate UK prices into dollars. You multiply by 2. (Maybe 3 if you're talking Canadian dollars...just kidding!)

Just remember: Everything is on sale for Twice The Price. That funny L thing is a 2x multiplier.

Good luck!

Actually, when I checked it was about 1.8 for US dollars, and about 2.2 for Canadian. Recently the US & Canadian dollars have been relatively close in value.

But the people coming to visit me from the UK are going to have a nice surprise. :)
