Finished The Shapes of their Hearts, by Melissa Scott, last night, and Eats, Shoots & Leaves, by Lynne Truss, today. Apparently I'm supplementing the books I brought with others... the first book of this vacation (Ethics Without Ontology) was brought by Jenny, my sister doing a philosophy degree, and the third was sitting on Cathy's shelves.

Date: 2005-12-24 05:18 pm (UTC)I like the joke about the panda
Date: 2005-12-24 08:33 pm (UTC)A panda comes into a bar sits down and proceeds to eat lunch. After is it finished it pulls out a gun and turns to the closest patron and shoots him dead and walks out. Another patron of the bar is overwhelmed by what they have just witnessed and says to the bartender what is up with that crazy panda, it just killed a man, the bartender says, yeah pandas are real badasses, but the other man says I thought they were supposed to be so very docile and friendly. Oh no says the bartender look up Pandas it says they eat shoots and leaves ;) *grinning* I know it is hokey, but I have always thought it a cute joke.
Anyway, on your reading 50 books this year, why not make it a year from now and include all the wonderful and interesting boooks you are reading right now? Something to consider....
And as for the cutsie kidlet, smile and make nice, it goes a long way with being nongrinchly and kids grown on you if you let them...

Date: 2005-12-24 09:02 pm (UTC)I do smile, I do make nice sometimes, but often I just wander off and read, or post, or whatever.
And, starting the year now... just wouldn't be quite right for a New Year's resolution type thing. Though, it would give me a headstart -- though having a headstart almost, really, defeats the purpose, since the purpose is to read more throughout the year, and the 50 books is just, kind of, the measuring point and inspiration for it.
