I didn't bring enough books. Well, if I'd had an internet connection, and could spend time in the evening online, I'd have enough books, but I don't have an internet connection, so am spending the evenings reading. Now, this isn't inherently bad, but I'm running out of reading material, and that is very bad. I didn't plan on this not having net access at the hotel, and it is causing problems.

I've only got one book left, and I've got two evenings, and many hours of plane flight, left. Ugh.

I am tempted to "aw muffin" you, but I actually feel quite deeply for you and am, consequently, unable to make fun of you.

Is there a Chapters equivalent nearby? Or an internet cafe? Or something?

*grin*

I'm in a smallish town, hours of opening are... not that long.

There is, apparently, an internet cafe... I wanted to go on Monday when I arrived, but they closed at 6pm.

hey you...

if you catch this before you go home from work (doing time-change math...unlikely) - I am bored and wish that you and I could be together to help pass the time.

Anyway, back to my knitting. I am glad that I can get away with doing this at work. =).

*hugs etc*

Can you find an Oxfam store? That's my supply of reading in the UK, 50p or so a book, donate it back when I'm done reading.

Hm... I might try looking... but when I'm done for the day, they're often closed.

What are the hours of the local library? Some of the libraries around here have books for sale.

*throws books at the monitor*

Hmm....they seem not to be going through!

I hope you can find a bookstore at least before the flight.

Can you download some ebooks during the day and read them offline at night?

I can mail you something if you like. There's also the Baen Free Library:

That's a thought. Might work for evening, but not for flight -- this laptop gets about 1 to 1.5 hours of life on battery.

send mail to redsash at gmail if you want a book. I've got a pile of stuff at home, and a smaller selection on a drive here -- both Amber series, some stephenson and gibson, etc.

Make a side trip to Hay-on-Wye, the 2nd-hand book capital of the world. Train to Hereford and bus from there.

Or you could just go to your local bookshop. But wouldn't the adventure be more fun?

This is the UK we are talking about, they have bookstores but they also have very limited store hours.

For evening entertainment how about the local pub instead of reading?

You could raid Gutenberg for some ebooks to read on your laptop.

DO get yourself books before you enter airports because if I remember your route you will not be happy with the selections available in them.

Can you sneak out at lunch or will all the bookstores be closed before you have access?

No sneaking out at lunch, unfortunately. I'll see if I can find something after work.
