The body shop called, and the damage is about $5300. It is almost completely front end, as I hoped. Bumper, grilled, mounts, radiator, fan, condenser, and some engine protection plates that were ripped off. So, looks like after I was riding up on the tire, things went smoothly -- just the initial impact was bad.

Of the humans, Kathleen who was riding with me, has concussion and whiplash effects -- she was still healing from a previous accident. From the other car, I saw Kate last night, and she seems fine. She has a scrape and some bruising on one hand, but, as she puts it, she regularly does worse to herself climbing. Ariela seems stiff, and may be looking at massage therapy/physio, not yet clear. And Helen unfortunately has a cracked vertabra in her neck -- so she'll be wearing a fancy collar for at least two months, before returning for evaluation. Given how bashed up Helen's car was, this is a surprising light set of injuries.

I always worry about near misses on the highway, what if I didn't see something and swerve in time. It's kind of interesting that you guys did just that and lived to tell the tale.
I find it interesting that your damage was to the initial point of collision and nothing damaged underneath, there are lots of bits of engine running parts that could be scraped or pulled off.

I'm glad your insurance is covering most of the costs. :)

Yeah, the body shop guy said that the damage appeared to stop basically at the transmission case -- it wasn't cracked or damaged -- and the rest looked (at least, in the initial tear down) fine.

Yeah, glad for insurance. And, I hope they track down the pickup truck that lost the tire so I don't even have to pay the deductible.

*chuckles*

I hope everyone has a speedy recovery! Including your vehicle.
