Awesome day of climbing
Nov. 16th, 2013 07:26 pmToday was an absolutely gorgeous day to be outside -- it was sunny, the temperature hit 13 degrees during the afternoon, minimal wind. Utterly wonderful. The only downside -- the day was too short. I climbed a bunch of good climbs, including one on-sight lead. We also climbed a "5.9" route that everyone had to do as an aid route -- pulling on a draw. Even Flo, who generally climbs 5.11s and projects 5.12s had to pull on the draw. Thoroughly old school.
Most exciting moment: a piece of ice about the size of a dinner plate, and about 2" (5cm) thick fell... past Noah who was climbing, showering him with ice pellets, and thumping into the rope piled at my feet as I was belaying. Nobody hurt -- but Noah said he was cold for the rest of the climb -- he had stripped down to his t-shirt by then.
