So busy, that I've been off-line since Friday evening.

Friday I bought myself a new pocket camera, since my previous one had gotten wet in England (who knew you could get wet weather in England?), and wasn't working. This one has 15x optical zoom, which should be nice for getting good shots of Yosemite Valley.

Saturday I was up fairly early, to pick up a couple more climbers at 8am, and head to Home Cliff near Luskville. We had a great day of climbing, with gorgeous autumn weather, and the trees just starting to colour nicely. I managed to get a clean lead on Lavender (5.9) which I'd taken a couple falls on leading last time I tried, a couple weekends ago. After I got back from climbing, I grabbed some dinner at the Daily Grind, walking over with Amelia to meet Paul. Then we headed back to my place, to be joined by Kim for a game of El Grande, which finished around 11:30pm.

Sunday I was headed for the Adirondacks with Flo for more climbing, so we planned on a 5am departure. We got slightly delayed on the way out because Flo had forgotten to bring his passport, but still got to Pitchoff Chimney Cliff by around 9am, where we climbed Pete's Farewell, a lovely 3-pitch 5.7 climb (though, fairly short pitches). A nice short approach, too. Then we drove along a bit further to Upper Washbowl. As the name suggests, the approach to this cliff was a fair bit longer, and noticeably uphill -- probably about 45 minutes, mostly fairly steeply uphill. We climbed Hesitation, a lovely 4-pitch, 350ft long route that goes at 5.8.

After the two climbs, we headed home, and I got home around 10:30 (after gear sort), and I almost immediately went to bed.

How is the new camera behaving? I'm curious what model you picked. Andrew got a new "point and shoot" sort of camera a couple of weeks ago.

I got a Nikon Coolpix S9050. It seems to be behaving so far -- but I won't really know until I take a look at my pictures from the weekend, which I haven't done yet.

Looking at some of my cliff photos -- the camera seems to be doing ok. I still miss use a view finder, rather than an LCD screen, for aiming photos. I think my head is steadier, than holding a camera out in front of me, so less likely to get shaky shots. But I haven't seen a point&shoot/compact camera with a view finder in years.

That is why Andrew picked the one he did. Paid a bit more, sacrificed a few features, but got a view finder. Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1.

I wasn't looked to pay in the order of $400 for a camera I'd be hauling up cliffs with me. I didn't see one in the price range I was looking for.

Good point! The cheaper point-and-shoot models didn't have viewfinders. Andrew has problems with really shaky hands, so paying extra for the model with the viewfinder made sense.
