After folding some laundry, I finally got around to sorting through my unmatched socks pile. I now have 9 more pairs of socks in my sock drawer. :)

The universe is returning socks?!

Well, I still have several un-matched socks in my un-matched socks pile, so maybe it just didn't take as many socks as the early surveys indicated.

My new sock-buying strategy is to pick up a dozen pair in the same style and colour whenever my sock drawer needs replenishing. It greatly reduces the number of unmatched socks. It's a little boring, though.

I tend to do similarly -- buy a bunch the same. Sometimes only 6-9, but same basic strategy. All 9 new-paired went back in the black-sock drawer, and were different generations of plain black sock.

Your stripey toe socks don't fit well in this paradigm.
