Gothics adventure - a few pictures
Aug. 11th, 2011 04:26 pmThis is the south face of the Gothics, well most of it at least. The climb we were planning to do starts (below) about the center of the bottom of the picture, where the rock runs off the frame, and continues to the center of the right side of the picture (and on) where, again, the rock runs out of frame.
The red circle shows about where we bivied.

I led (in the dark) across the bottom of that arching overlap that goes between the sections of trees near the red circle.
Here we are looking up at the face.

I am about 2/3 of the way up the first pitch, squatted down trying to place gear. The highest point you can see is the end of pitch 2 -- about 280' up of 800' to be climbed.
And here we (me, K8, Celine) in the bivy:

You can't actually tell that the ground is quite definitely not-horizontal, but believe me, it is. (Then again, looking at where the bivy is, from the first photo, might give that clue. :)
