Time spent in Houston...

Well, it's been almost two weeks in Houston, now. Tomorrow I get on a plane for a 7am departure to Detroit, by way of DFW. An early morning the Friday of a con...what a recipe for either complete brain failure, or (ugh) crashing early Friday night.

So, managed to visit a bunch of friends, including 3 evenings here in Houston with kgkofmel, and two of them seeing M as well; a short visit with R in Austin, then almost two days with T&S up in Houston. Having a weekend in the middle really made a difference for getting around to see people.

The training, 9 days worth, seemed to go well, and the students seemed to learn, and find the material useful. That's always good.

And, while dialup has been painful, it hasn't been impossible -- though I have been doing most of my browsing with images turned off in order to preserve bandwidth. Still, it made trying to look at anything on the work servers over VPN almost impossible.

The new cell phone is working fine, but boy can one chew through airtime minutes but fast.

Yes, I bought a cell phone (mentioned it here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/dagibbs/5148.html ), picked it up Friday before I left for this trip. I will, as I get the chance, and as I learn the number, start to propagate the number. LJ will NOT be my choice of medium for that propagation. :)
