My dad took a few snapshots of some of the trees and damage. I've scanned 4 of them, so you can take a look. About 64k per picture.

This picture is from the parking area, looking towards the main cottage. The trees that are down were on either side of the path from the parking area to the cottage, and I used to think of them as kind of the "gateway".

Not visible, but under those trees is the hydro wires to the cottage. The trees pulled down the wires, and the hydro mast to the cottage.

The next three are looking at a pair of trees that landed on the back porch.

The umbrella to the right was undamaged.

The table under the trees is pretty well trashed, and there is some damage to the porch. But, the cottage is untouched -- not even ripped screens.

These trees reached almost to the water in front of the cottage, despite falling from basically behind the cottage. Not small trees.

There were bigger trees down elsewhere -- the cedar (right hand tree, first picture) is bigger round than these ones, and there's an even larger tree down elsewhere on the property.

Wow, those weren't small trees either. It's going to take a fair bit of work to clear them. Do you have a fireplace or woodstove? Will you at least managed to make firewood of them? Just looking for the bright side. :)

Yup, they'll be turned into firewood -- primary heating for the cottage is a wood stove. (Secondary is electric baseboard heating, but that is only in one room, my parents bedroom.)

And, you're right, they aren't small trees. When I mentioned (in the other post) 15 trees down, I meant 15 sizeable trees down.

Wow. It was good to hear that at least the cottage is ok.

If I can be of help with the cleanup, I would be happy to pitch in.

Thanks for the offer of help. As with the others, I'll let you know.

Are there many trees down on the access road?

I remember the summer I was a junior forest ranger we spent a day clearing an access road of downed trees, using axes and a chain saw.

I assume you will be using a chain saw don't forget your leggings and face shield.

There were a number of trees down on different sections of the road in, and accross the hydro lines, too. They've all been dealt with already -- that was my parents van right by the cottage in one of the photos.

wow, I wish I could help clean up. (too far away, too allergic.) Let me know if there's some other cottage contribution I could make next year.

BTW I took a few pictures of the VW Bus at the cottage. Best one is featured at http://www.toybox.ca/~alanab/gallery/.

I recognise the stump with mushrooms, too.

New lj account? How are you seperating the content of the two? Is one of them going to be the work-visible one?
