I had a great visit with Chuck & Erica this evening. Good Mexican food, and some touristing around in San Francisco.

BTW, whoever thought to build a city in San Francisco was mad! There's no flat land anywhere!

But, I am looking forward to being home tomorrow.

San Francisco is only possible because it never snows. Can you imagine if it did?

Snow in San Francisco is a frightening thought... as would be the idea of ice, too.

MMM real mexican food from California (happy childhood memory!)
happy real land features including the smell of the trees on the top of the hills in parks, and the smell of the ocean, and small little out of the way beaches! Must take the kids there to visit family soon!

Yeah, finding even decent Mexican food in Ottawa is tough, and I really miss it. So, whenever I'm somewhere southern-ish US, I try to get a decent amount.

San Francisco was not built it just happened. If it was not the best seaport on the way to the California gold mines of 1849 you probably do not get a city there, at least not one with a grid of streets.

It almost literally sprang up overnight.

I know, most cities "just happen".

"Deep-water port" and "no flat land" frequently go together.

True, to get deep water port, you need steep slopes into the water -- which tends to mean steep slopes out of the water, too. Though, sometimes a river will give you an exception... e.g. Rotterdam.
