Wow does going away for a weekend ever leave one behind.

Had a wonderful weekend away. On Saturday, we drove through some very pretty areas of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire on the way to Salem, MA. Spent Sunday walking around Salem, visitted the House of Seven Gables, the harbour, a couple of small museums, and a few shops. On Monday, we saw a trial re-enactment, then got on the road to come home, doing it on the interstates rather than back roads as on the way down, mostly through New Hampshire and Vermont (I89). While the weather wasn't perfect, it didn't rain on our Picnic on Saturday, and it only sprinkled occasionally while we were walking around on Sunday. Still, some of the scenery might have been nicer on a sunny day, without the cloud cover, to give better sight distance.

And, it was nice to be home, and sleeping in my own bed, last night.

And who is "we"?
Did you go by car or bike?

"We" is [livejournal.com profile] leolac and me, as mentioned in here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/dagibbs/55648.html). Sorry about any confusion, I wasn't trying to be coy, and that post was right before this one on my journal -- though of course it is just pages ago in friends-list land.

We went by car. I am so glad we went by car, since it did pour rain a couple times on the way down, and rained most of the trip home. It would have been a cold miserable trip by bike.

I'm sure I could have found the info but thought it was more chatty to ask.
Glad you had a good time and had the car in the rain, it's not really summer yet.

Yes, it was fine to ask, I appreciate the chattiness. I didn't intend to criticise for asking. Online communication can lose nuances.

And, yes, it isn't summer... it was less summer this weekend, than goodly chunks of early April were. Both my trips to Toronto, by bike, had far more pleasant weather.

Sounds like you had a great time. I enjoyed visiting Salem with all it's history. I had not realized you were going by car. Sounds like it was a wiser choice then a motorcycle.

If I'd been travelling alone and the weather had looked better for the weekend, I might have done it by bike. I'm not shy of doing long bike trips. I've even done longish trips two-up, but not with a new passenger.

Yes I have read about some of your long trips.

Despite the fact that ole' I-89 is the most numbing, neverending stretch of highway I've ever driven down...(lol)...how was the trip? I've been debating doing a Salem/Boston/coast trip in the next bit. suggestable? ;)

If you think I89 is a long/boring stretch of interstate class highway, I really hope you never have the joy of, say, 401 from London to Windsor, or I80 accross Nebraska. I actually find that I89 is a nicely winding, up and down, interstate compared to many of the others. And, there's often some nice views from it, too.

But, it was a wonderful trip. Of course, a good part of why it was wonderful was my travelling companion -- still I like the roads through the area, and there was some interesting stuff in Salem, and a lot of tourist trap in Salem, too. It's probably got a day's worth of interesting stuff, including the house of seven gables, if you like old (for North America, that is) buildings. There's a lot of "quaint", too.

Well, I did put quaint in quotations, who did you think I was quoting? :)

I've been away from academia for a while. And mostly didn't do a lot of courses with footnoteing when I was there. So, I guess I'm out of the habit. :)
