I get two 50-lb suitcases (plus I bring a back pack on board). I want to pack clothes for the con -- and I want to be fancier than normal for this. And clothes for a week of work. And climbing clothes & gear. And dance shoes. And boots for the con. And my long leather coat would be nice for con -- but not maybe appropriate for work. Or maybe... I could wear that. And then there's the toys. They weigh TOO MUCH. And the case for the violet wand -- it doesn't look very big... until you put it in a suitcase, and suddenly the suitcase is full. I wonder if the bottle of port will make it? (There's others on the way, and being purchased there, but still, I wanted to bring one myself.)

*flails*

Luckily, one of the dykelings has a bathroom scale. Luggage doesn't sit on it well, but I can do subtraction.

Though I'll freely admit, I find myself hoping the leather coat does make it through the final culling. (:

Will it be warm enough for that week in Michigan?
And, will it look appropriate for arriving at customer's places that week.

I'd like it to arrive, too. I like that coat.

Are you thin-blooded, or thick, in general? In the absence of that knowledgbe, I would have been completely comfortable in a similar coat today. Predicting the rest of the week, not even going to try.

What kind of client sight? EDS-like? Funky tech company-like? Other?

Terumo medical devices -- no idea what sort of client, never been there before.

I'm moderate on warm/cold -- I am a Canadian, but that also means I know how to dress for the cold. And, I've had a soft winter so far -- just had 2 weeks in Texas.

If you buy port in Duty Free on the way there, it won't count towards your luggage weight.

If you drink it all there, it won't count on the way back either.

=)

I had actually thought of that. I'm not sure if they'll have what I want, but I may resort to it.

I feel that there is no worry about getting it all drunk while there. ;)

I am about 80% sure that the duty free in Ottawa airport does not have any port - it's an extremely small duty free.

Actually scratch that. They did stock one, at least in November.

I think it was Graham's 10yr, but my memory may have that wrong.

The port fit. And, I think I've already packed a Graham's 10 year. So that wouldn't be useful.

I should look on this pass through, though, just to know.

Yes, toys are dense, as is anything else leather.

Good luck!

They let you bring a backpack on board? Even under the new rules (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZfbTlYpKYo)?

The new rules changed to allow one carryon yesterday

Oh, goodie. I was going to ask why you weren't putting some things in carryon (although the violet wand might raise some eyebrows, I am hoping you bring it).

The violet wand is packed. Given the current paranoia, that is one thing I really would NOT want to try to carry on.

Plus, my carry-on is heavy enough with laptop and other bits of electronics that I just don't want to pack.

Yay for the gradual return of something approaching sanity!

We're nowhere near sanity, yet. But less totally insane.

I carried-on my back pack all through my last trip -- and that was flying out just after January.

I just kept wondering why you needed more than one flail to pack... but that might be my mind this morning.

Good luck, and have fun!

To use the weight scales weigh yourself then yourself plus your luggage then subtract your weight to get the luggage weight.

"but I can do subtraction."

Why do you think I was doing subtraction?

It's not a good idea to be on any kind of traction, small or large, just before a con.

Now, substraction does not involve effort. :)
