SAQ

Visited the SAQ -- the SAQ Select had quite a nice Port selection. Also visited the Depot. Not as much selection, but holy cow a lot of booze. Bought some more stuff there.

I've now got lots of supplies for my party on the 27th, and probably a couple more Port and other beverage parties.

Oh yeah, two more Single Malts, too. Nothing exciting, just a Bowmore and a Glenfiddich -- both 12 year. Still, the collection is growing.

Which SAQ did you visit? The one by the casino is where they sent me for a good port section.

I went to the SAQ Select out near where clinkerfiasco lives, at Allumetieres and Saint Raymond. I went to the SAQ Depot on Champagne, just over the Alexandria bridge from Ottawa.

I didn't try the one by the Casino, but might try that next time. I think it is an SAQ Select as well, IIRC.

If you ever want to go or get something from the Depot, just give Frenchzie a call. She is literally just up the street from there.

But, the Depot is all about buying in bulk.

True, but if she happens to be thinking of refilling our wine supply it could do.

1. Pick: indeed, should you find few bottles (ports?), should I find some for myself (wine?) and should we get Jagash's wish list (liquors?), we can then easily reach the required 12 bottles for the maximum discount...

2. Select: it's sure that the Dépôt doesn't have an impressive selection or as many labels as you could find in an average SAQ, but I usually can find enough interesting bottles... (I've even seen places with a more restricted selection!) ;)

3. Draw to complete your hand: I usually ask the personnel for suggestions and take advantage of the discount to try couple of labels that I don't know (I've discovered very interesting products that I would not have tried otherwise) and/or grab few extra bottles that can be easily be used as gift for my host in the event that I'm invited to a dinner or party (the Dépôt still have some selection for ports and Bordeaux)...

4. Count your victory points: so should you be tempted to go to the Depot to get 4 to 6 bottles, please let me know and we'll share the discount... ;)

:D

I'll keep that in mind. Right now, I think I mostly have what I need.

I know the selection at the Depot was pretty good -- but I was looking especially for high-end Ports, and for that, the Select had a much better choice.
