Mmm.. Food

I haven't cooked for myself in a while. Partially cause when you're living alone, and living in the neighbourhood I'm in, there's not a big incentive to cook. Partially cause I did a lot of cooking for Donna, and was kind of burnt out on cooking. (No, doing a big pot of chili for a group isn't the same, it's cooking for a group, even if I do eat the left-overs for a few meals.)

But, today I did my first BBQ of the season, lamb chops. I did potatoes to go with them, boiled with rosemary, then drained, a sprinkle of garlic, pepper, sea salt and olive oil added, and shaken in the pan. I was planning to have salad with this, but went to the liquor store instead of the grocery store on the way home. (More on that...) The food came out quite well, but my right hand didn't. First, I cut the index finger while chopping the potatoes. Ouch, blood, pressure, bandaid. Then, while draining the potatoes, I spilled the boiling water over that same right hand. Luckily tap water is still nearly freezing cold, and running it immediately under the tap is good first aid for that. Still, I can feel that it is burnt.

Liquor store: apparently the LCBO in Ottawa (yeah, all of them) is out of Strongbow (cider) and has been for a couple of weeks. Can you imagine that? So, I had to buy Blackthorn instead. Tomorrow night, we'll see how that turns out.

YUM!! I love food. AND I love being invited over for food! *Note: Subtlety is NOT my strong suit* You sound like a fabulous cook. And I would be glad to do the cutting and pouring for you as to avoid future injury to the cook.

Well, you're quite welcome to come over some time, but it's a bit of a hike for a dinner party. Of course, if you do want to visit Ottawa some time, I've got lots of room, (and lots of rooms,) so you're quite welcome to stay at my place.

And, it's kind of odd -- I don't really think of myself as "much of a cook", but maybe I am. I can cook reasonable food of a variety of types without using a recipe -- just based on what I think will go well. (And, I can follow recipes, though I'll often "tune" them as I do so.) Maybe I can cook, after all. If that is the case, I think I have to credit my mother, and various women I've lived with, as well as at least one male friend.

I'm not so impressed with Blackthorn, but then I don't recall having Strongbow, so I can't compare. My favorites are Woodchuck Amber or Dark & Dry.

I like Woodchuck, too. But, I've only had it in the States (Michigan), and not been able to find it for sale here in Ontario.

Hm... you're in Austin, that's not far from Houston. Will you be going to Apollocon (http://www.apollocon.org/) in Houston, near the end of June? I expect to be there, you see.

I haven't the slightest idea. I will consider it if I'm in town then and have the free time, but I don't know at all right now.
