I want to re-read that rule, and see how badly it was written that we interpreted it the wrong way.

" Distant Markets – if you sell to the Distant Market then the additional income shown on the Cotton Demand track is added to your income level, it is not taken as cash."

Yeah, that's news to me too... I'll check this weekend. That it required clarification on the web makes me suspect that the original text is pretty murky.

From reading on BGG, we're not the only ones who misinterpreted it. The Brass rules are not the easiest to understand, and I'll bet, as you say, that one was extra murky.

It says that "You then earn an additional amount of money for the sale as indicated at the side of the track." That really sounds like extra cash, not income steps!

It sure does. It the intention was income (as that faq suggests) then that was a very poorly phrased rule.
