A friend of mine is opening an online game store here in Ottawa.

His site: http://www.hitboardgames.com

If you're local, game delivery may end up being free -- he may be able to drop it off, or I may use it as an excuse to go out and visit him.

I hope he does well.

Ok, I'm clearly too much of an MMO geek, because at first I parsed that as "online game... store" not "online... game store", and it took me a minute after clicking through to relocate the pause to a place that made sense for what I was actually seeing on the site. I suppose if I'd actually read the URL before clicking, it might have made a difference. heh

I can understand that, and the confusion.

It looks like he has a reasonable selection, though I could wish for some different browsing options in the store part of the site. For example, is there a way to look at all board games by title, as opposed to by category or manufacturer? I saw the "all games" option, but that included the wargames not just board games. I tend to remember games by title not by category, and some of my category guesses for games I remember liking didn't match the categories he put them in. He'll probably get my business regardless, but it would happen faster if I could find the stuff that interested me quicker, rather than waiting until I have time to sift through the entire list. :)

May I re-post this commentary to him?

To find game-by-title I just used the "search". That works if you know the title, though, but if you almost know... but don't quite get the spelling right, I don't know what happens.

Hi Xiphia,

It's my store, so, feel free to ask me any questions.

You can of course search by title if you know the name of the game.
(upper left of the screen), if you missed it then I will have to look at where to put it.

I had trouble with some of the categories for some of the games to be honest.

Theoretically of course (I just tried it) you can go to the advanced search and limit your options to just the boardgames and see an alphabetical listing of all the non boardgames (by setting the max price to something really high). Probably a nuisance for most people to figure out though.

There are definitely going to be some improvements to make to the site for things like that.

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming!

T.

If you like, but apparently he's already seen it. Also, turns out I know him too. :)

Yes, already seen it. And I'm not surprised that you also know him.

Oh, it's YOU! Cool. :)

I'll try the advanced search, thanks. The reason I like a list is for the games where I would recognize the title if I saw it in print, but can't quite remember it well enough to search by title outright.

Neat idea for a business btw. One can never have too many options for buying games. 8D

You shouldn't be surprised, you're the one that introduced us. :p

Though [livejournal.com profile] blinkus2000 also works with him.

Also, you can simply ask me if you are trying to find something, I probably know it. Especially now that I am poring over entire supplier ordering sites.

And obviously, if you want something that's not there, just let me know, being in town you will obviously save a fair chunk of change this way.
