My favourite pictures...
Aug. 15th, 2009 10:03 pmIn case the huge post of pictures is too much... just look at these two. They are my favourite, where I managed to capture a gorgeous sunset.

If you want full-resolution copies, let me know. I'm using one for desktop on my netbook, the other on my home machine. I'm not sure which is going to go on my work laptop.

Date: 2009-08-16 02:33 pm (UTC)Advice? I don't know enough about the trails up to Machu Picchu, but would guess they are in the steep hiking category. Be very careful with the weight you pack -- pack as lightly as you can get away with. You will regret every extra pound. If the trails are rough, or get quite steep, you will likely appreciate hiking poles. I didn't truly appreciate them until I was in very steep hiking terrain, especially traversing or descending. Pace yourself very carefully. Of course, make sure you have enough water -- yes, this conflicts with having a light pack, unless there are easy sources of water along the way. 2300m is high enough that you will notice thin air when you're moving, especially ascending, but not high enough that you really need to take precautions in advance. Cardiovascular and ascend/descend training in advance (with your pack) can be useful -- is there an accessible steep section of trail that you can cycle up/down on?
Have fun. Take pictures.
