Now, most of this is equipment that will last at least years and years, possibly more. But, it is still expensive. And some of it is only only partially climbing related.

The MEC expedition purchase list:

Metolius Multi-loop gear holder. $20.00
5x60cm Dynex sewn slings. 5x7.75 = $38.75
B.D. 60cm sling. $4.30
2x120cm Dynex sewn slings. 2x12 = $24
1x OCUN 120cm sewn sling. $7.75
14 x Metolius Inferno Caribiners: 14x7.25 = $108.50
Camp Tri Cams #0.5, 1, 1.5: $17, $17.50, 21 = $55.50
Black Diamond Stoppers, #4-14: 3x7.50, 4x8.50, 4x9 = $92.50
7mm static lines, 2x6m @ 1.20/m = $14.40
Metolius Ultrilight TCU set. $161
Wild Country ProKey Nut tool. $13

That's $539.70 for the rack. (Well, I've already got 6 SLCs, 2nd hand at $20US ($24), for an additional $144. They're generally about 60-90 apieces.) So, 683.70 for the rack.

Other gear:
Mammut Supernova 10mm 60m climbing rope. $152.
MEC Raven Wide sleeping bag (3 season) - $153
Sleeping Pad - forgot the price.
Cotton Sleeping bag liner - $27 (unless I can find my silk one, but I think I may have lent it to gabriel_le for her AT hike and not gotten it back)
Possibly compression sack for sleeping bag. (Didn't note price since probably not buying.)
Telescoping hiking poles - $62.

Other stuff: $394.

MEC shopping trip: $933.70

Youch. But, I should be good for a while. (He says, dreaming. There's always more newer, shinier, gear to buy. Just like games.)

Hm... for comparison, downhill skis, boots, and bindings can easily hit this range, and run up from there.

I'm not sure I've ever personally had that expensive an Ikea visit, but I could well believe that it can happen.

Where's ilanikhan when you need her.

Bailiff, supress this witness!

In that case, suppress thyself.

But what would be the point of being the bailiff, then?

If you want, I have a silk liner you're welcome to borrow too.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm buying some of the camping type gear because I don't want to keep borrowing stuff from you, and I expect to continue to do these climbing trip type things.

Hey, everyone needs a hobby they can't afford ;)

My problem is that I have several potentially expensive hobbies, not just one.

I know the feeling! We can call one the minimum, I figure...

That I can't argue. At least one.
