The problem with drinking good Port...

is that you tend to lose your taste for the cheap stuff, and your life gets more expensive.

Another problem, I far more often tend to notice & buy interesting ports. I've accumulated 4 quite good ports again, and I'm just not sure what I'm going to do with them. They're not really for day-to-day drinking. Maybe I'll just have to not wait until my birthday and do another port party sooner than that.

Also, I've started appreciating Scotch a bit more. Oops.

Who says a good port/scotch can't be for everyday drinking, or at least a weekend drink or some such.

It's there to enjoy. If it runs out, content yourself with the medium grade until such a time as you happen to restock.

Good scotch -- yes. It stores quite well after having been opened.

Good port -- I may not be able to finish it on my own before it has dropped in quality from reacting to the air. Then again, I would generally have a month or so, so maybe I could.

Also, having the port around gives me an excuse to invite people over to help me drink it. And how can that be bad?

ah....true. Open port lasts a good while, but open scotch can hang around a year or more.

In any case, if your excuse is the need to share it, I should not dissuade you from that.
