This morning I threw together a chili -- I figured it would go well with gaming this afternoon.

iclysdale was first to show up, and while waiting we played some Set. We were just done when 2 more people started showed up: ironphoenix and jagash. We played a game of Glory to Rome (ironphoenix for the big win), and while that happened beable and green_ogre appeared. The we pulled out Acquire for the 6 of us -- green_ogre for the win. mikepictor joined arrived near the end, and ironphoenix departed, so still with 6, we moved on to Imperial and dinner while playing. commodorified and boy showed up during Imperial to join us for dinner & social. (I ended up winning Imperial.) After dinner & Imperial, we had 7 gamers, so 4 of us (jagash, me, green_ogre, and boy) played Ys, while beable and (I think) iclysdale played Mr Jack, which mikepictor instructed, and then observed Ys. After that everyone but commodorofied and boy left, so we reverted to drinking port until late in the am. Well, late for a night when I have to work in the morning.

In summary:

Set (me), Glory to Rome (ironphoenix), Acquire (green_ogre), Imperial (me), Ys (me) -- 3 new or close to new games and a favourite.

I didn't know mikepictor knew Mr. Jack well enough to teach.

I'm glad you had a good night.

It's a straightforward game, Iclysdale and I would have just muddled through the instructions on our own otherwise I think.

I played the inspector and one. I'll have to play Jack next time to get an opinion on game balance, because I think it may be more in favour of the inspector.

it took me *forever* to understand the game (the subtle mechanics of it, not the rules) and then another day to finally beat dagibbs at a game. I felt very proud that day. =)

I don't think so. I find the end of the game often comes down, on the last turn, to the inspector having a 50/50 guess as to which is Jack and going with the accusation.

Mikepictor makes a good point, in that iclysdale mae a tactical error that resulted in my positively knowing who Jack was by round 3, and then it was two rounds before I could accuse him, but iclysdale was unable to move him to an exit during that time either.

as beable said, it's not a hard game to remember after you play it a couple of times.

Jack (iclysdale) make a critical mistake of thinking he had everyone witnessed, with only the lamplighter left to activate....who put just one character in darkness, and thus confirmed Jack.

the last time I played, dagibbs forgot to cover one of the exits, so I darted out in round 4. That is the only time I've won against him.
