I was worried that I wouldn't have internet access this week, given that I'm staying at a Super 8 Motel in Monette, Missouri. Not exactly a fancy place, not exactly a big city. But, surprise, when I power up, I've got a wireless network called "guest" in range, and it's open access. And free. Sweet, I can post this...

See, that's the good bit. The bad bits is that, once again flights were delayed. And Northwest managed to lose my luggage. Or, at least, if they know where it is, they managed to seperate it from me. And DTW was chaos. And the rental car is a piece of junk -- it's a Ford Focus, but it doesn't seem to be in great shape, with a front end vibration and most speeds over 50mph. And some nasty road noise at a couple different speeds.

I went out to dinner, had Mexican hoping for some flavour. They brought the chips with two salsas, offering me a choice between the "mild" or the "hot". It was Mexicans running the place (or at least the looked Mexican, as did some of the clientele), so I considered mild, but went for hot. After about three chips, I had to ask for hot sauce & dump a bunch in. With wockets of hot sauce poured over the food, it achieved flavour. (Even the "hot" sauce wasn't all that hot -- some flavour, a nice smokey back drop [probably chipotle], but not all that hot.)

And, I made an emergency shopping trip, acquiring emergency supplies: socks, underwear, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodarant and hair brush.

The joys of travel.

Maybe it's Northwest? I've had some nasty-tight connections on United, one where I RAN the whole way, and just barely got there before the doors closed, and we took off, and my luggage made it, and other close ones, and they've usually gotten my luggage there with me. They're not perfect, they've had a delayed luggage, too. But, this time, really, I waited a fair while in DTW, since both incoming and outgoing were delayed, and the gates were, actually, close by -- but they still managed to not deliver my luggage. *sigh*

I think it's DTW. They diverted my luggage too, last time I went through there. When I checked it, they were obviously having some sort of meltdown. The lone woman taking the luggage was frantically climbing over piles of it trying to serve all the people trying to check things, and the TSA guys were searching the bags right out in the middle of everything. While I was in line, they finally gave up on squeezing any more of it behind the counter and started stacking it outside the counter. It sure does a lot for MY sense of security to know they're piling checked bags in the public areas. Sigh.
