The good news: I'm lucky that I didn't need surgery. For the bone I broke (confirmed as the talus), usually surgery is needed for positioning, but I had no shift in the break.

The bad news: the talus is a slow-healing bone. I'm going to be on the crutches and in the cast for (at least) another 4 weeks. I have another appointment 4 weeks from today.

The so-so news: I can start to do 1/2 weight-bearing motion on that foot/ankle. Definitely in the cast, since any twisting or sideways motion of the ankle could be very bad. After a couple weeks, I can also start to ramp-up the weight slowly.

A bit more good news: when this heals, it should heal completely -- I should be as good as new.

So, I need to find someone with a bathroom scale I can visit. I need to weigh myself, then put just my left foot on the scale and increase the pressure until it gives 1/2 my weight. This is so I'll have an idea of just how much pressure is 1/2 weight-bearing.

Sorry to hear you'll be on crutches for awhile yet, but very glad that it will be "good as new" in time!

Not in February, I would think. But I've emailed them and should be able to rebook for early April.
