Date: 2008-05-08 07:54 pm (UTC)I've also talked to people who have contracted things overseas, and they report a lot of waste as all the suppliers and contractors race to the bottom. Seam allowances get reduced, polystyrene gets substituted for polypropylene, 16 gauge wire gets substituted for 14 gauge, etc. When these substitutions happen, if you don't catch them in time, a lot of employee hours are wasted in assembling things from substandard materials, in substandard fashion. They will probably have less trouble with this in SC, because they'll have more people who understand that specifications exist for a reason; they aren't just a failure to realize it could be done cheaper.
