But, they only did half of our street, and they did the section that I don't care about -- where the street is wide, instead of our section where the street is narrowed and hard to navigate.

And we got another couple of centimetres (bit less than an inch) of snow last night. If we get more snow... about 30 cms (about a foot) more, we'll set the new record!

Apparently we've had a lot more thawing this winter then when that last record was set though.

I would expect so -- there's nothing like 4m of accumulated snow out there.

Most snow goes away when the air temperature is below the freezing point of water. Sublimation goes on all the daylight hours, even when there is no direct sunlight, if I understand correctly. Also, melting reduces the snow but, more than that, it reduces the height of snow cover by allowing the fluffiness to compact.

I know that some snow goes away due to sublimation -- is it really most? Melting, would definitely compact, and of course the weight of more snow falling on top will compact the stuff on the bottom, too.

Oh dear.
I hope you don't have to get car out through the narrower part.

Yes, I do. When I tried to get to work on Monday, I got hung up on snow banks while trying to back out of my driveway. It was the turning that was tricky -- not enough space to turn. I then figured it out -- I've only get enough room to go one direction out of the driveway, but can't go the other.

Yes, I have been in a couple of cars and watched their drivers have the same problem turning, there is simply not much room. One direction is something, it is better than impossible/no escape. :P

Hopefully it will all melt away soon.

And, this morning, there was someone else stuck blocking the one way out of my street. I had to push them.

*giggles* Were they around to know that you were pushing them?

Yeah, they were.
