I've got this bottle of vintage port (1987) that was given to me a few years ago and which I've been saving for a special occasion. I figure that turning 40, and the bottle turning 20, is a special occasion, so will be opening, decanting, and serving the port. I have high hopes for it.

I expect, too, several other ports to be available. Unfortunately, I have not been able to track down another bottle of the Australian Tawny that was such a hit last time I served port.

Would you remind me?

HOw long can you have a bottle of port open and have it still be enjoyable? For instance: I open the bottle and have a small glass or two, and perhaps it takes me a week or 10 days of small glasses to finish it (assuming of course I can restrain myself of course), will the galss on the 10th day still be 'nice', even though of course it will be different from the first day's glass. All assuming a basic LBV port, $18 or so at the LCBO.

For most ports -- a few weeks to a few months.

And it is a birthday party (with port) not a port party. :)

Unless I am a total scatterbrain (e.g. having brought it to con_girl's brithday or something like that and forgotten) I still have the bottle of port I had brought to your cottage, so I will bring that. Not quite a vintage port, but hopefully still tasty.

That Australian tawny was indeed amazing, I remember!

More port is quite welcome.

Ah, okay, that's what this is about...

Hope I'm not too late to RSVP?

Mmmm, port... I have 2/3 of a bottle of pretty good stuff (Opimian Finest Reserve) left here from my parents that really should get finished off sooner than Dec. 28, so let's find an occasion for y'all to come on over.

Absolutely not too late to RSVP. In fact, I haven't really officially posted the invite, just a little "I'm going to have this party" pre-announcement.

I'm always happy to come by and consume port. :) Scheduling, especially to get both gabriel_le and me, is more tricky...

Hmmm. I'm planning to take a sabbatical from aikido this December, so perhaps we can get together some evening if the weekends are unworkable? I'll also be inclined to do some climbing for fun and exercise (my skillz and physique are lose at it, but it's fun), and will be looking for belay partners!

My climbing schedule -- when I'm in town -- is Tuesday & Thursday evenings. I also try to get out one day over the weekend. (I'm planning to climb this Saturday, for example.) I am out of town for business, though, December 2nd - 14th. (First two weeks, basically.) Though, I do climb with a group on Thursday's that I'd be happy to introduce you to if you're looking for people to climb/belay with on Thursdays.

Also, gabriel_le and I have a dance lesson on Wednesday evenings from 9pm-10pm.

Things get more complicated with gabriel_le, because she also has to schedule around pezchica and scubajim and evenings she is spending with them. (And, I don't know the details of that schedule which is somewhat in flux right now.)

So, really, it isn't that I don't want to -- it is that scheduling my life is difficult and scheduling gabriel_le's life is DIFFICULT.

How does Dec 17th sound? That's a Monday evening.

We could look at weekend time to, once my life settles down a little bit and I have a clearer idea of what my schedule looks like.
