Climbing at the Shrine

Went climbing at an area called The Shrine today. Tougher than Spindrift Wall -- the easiest bolted route was 5.7. I was able to lead that, and after setting the top rope, we both made a couple ascents on alternate routes, too.

Then tried a 5.8. Got the first clip, but no further, even on multiple attempts. Eventually had to lower off, set a top rope from the top, rappel down, and rescue my gear. *sigh*

Did take my first fall on lead, though. (And not only one.) I still don't like falling on lead. I'm not sure I'm ever going to like it. It is scary.

Hey, at least technological progress means that it's no longer likely to "lead" to teh ded... let's hear it for dynamic ropes, fancy anchors, etc!
