Two more games...

I won a copy of Battlelore at Cangames this year -- the person running the game had two copies to give away, one he gave to the winner of the tournament, the other two someone draw randomly from the participants in the demos. I was lucky, and won the draw. But, I wasn't around to collect, so he took the game home with him. To Sherbrooke, Quebec. It finally got dropped off at Fandom II earlier this week, and I picked it up this evening. And, of course, when I was there I looked at games... and picked up a copy of Ra, which has been on my "to-buy" list for a while. (Battlelore is #8 and Ra #14 on Boardgame Geek.)

Ra is surprisingly unappealing to a number of gamers, and nobody's articulated the reason for this clearly to me. I certainly have no objection to it: I bought it last year having played it a number of times previously.

I know some people (for example con_girl) who hates auction games. Clearly Ra would NOT be the game for her. I can understand people who don't like auctions having a real problem with Ra. I've liked it when I've played it -- and clearly a lot of people like it, too, due to the high rating on BGG.

Me, I'm really unsure about Battlelore. I think it is an interesting system, but I've found it very frustrating to play. But, it a top rated game on BGG, too.
