An afternoon of gaming

I went gaming at ironphoenix's place today. gabriel_le and I met him at Cangames, where he ran a game of Modern Art that she played in. He mentioned that he sometimes does gaming get-togethers, and we exchanged contact information. Today he had one of those get-togethers, and I was there, though gabriel_le was out SCUBA diving instead. I brought along a few games of mine, but didn't play any -- though my Fluxx did get played at another table.
A total of about 13 people showed up, though not all were there at the start. At the most, we ended up with two 4-player and a 5-player game running.
We started with Wits and Wager, a light quick game of trivia and wagering. Clever mechanism, and ok game -- but I don't think it will ever be a favourite of mine. (I finished 3/6.)
While we played that, more people arrived, 5 split off for a longish game that I might have liked, but wasn't really inspired by as it was a spin-off from a computer game.
The remaining 6 of us played Fearsome Floors. Still light, but maybe inching up to medium-light. I didn't recognise it by name, but after we started playing I found it a bit familiar. I remember not liking it, but with 6 it seemed a decent enough game. Maybe last time I was in the wrong mood, or had the wrong number of people or something. Anyway, I did enjoy it. (1/6)
Then, we reached 8 and split 4 and 4. I was with the group that, at my suggestion, pulled out Java. It is part of a trilogy/series of games that includes Tikal and Mexica, both of which I like. I like Java, too, and would be quite interested in acquiring it. I think the other 3 had played the game before, at least two of them had -- though possibly a while ago. I won this, too, which seemed to greatly impress one of the other players there. ("You won against D & M, and you'd never played the game before? Wow, that's impressive.")
At this point, everyone left, and I stayed for a game of Go. We played at even, despite me likely being a few stones stronger, and came out with about the expected result.
All in all, it was a good afternoon of gaming.

Date: 2007-06-10 12:13 pm (UTC)I may be getting to a point where I have critical mass to organize some of the Big Games again (half-day or full-day games), and I suspect that might be up your alley?
Btw, glanced at your profile, and noticed a certain amount of overlap in friends... small town here!
