Wow, did the Germans around me stare at me like I was from outer space...I had to repeat myself "yes, a freshly opened bag of Haribo gummy bears I find too chewy and less flavourful than I would want."
Perhaps we have "white bread" gummy bears here, and they were offering me "whole wheat" for the first time...leading me to think that their's are better after all, since "white foods" are bad and all.
I'm not sure if it is that they are stale, or that they are made differently -- less gummy. I don't think it is a white flour/whole wheat thing, so much as different styles/expectations. Though, you are right there's do seem likes our get when ours get stale.
