rental cars

I travel for business, which means I get a lot of rental cars. Sometimes they don't have a car in my class and I've been upgraded. Sometimes, its a good thing, other times its just an annoyance. I'd generally rather have a small to mid-sized car, than some luxo-boat. And on my last trip to San Jose, I ended up with a small (for an SUV) Ford SUV (Escape, I think). Ugh. In Toronto, after my car died at Worldcon, the mini-van I got instead of a compact turned out to be quite handy. But, this trip, I think I've really scored -- I have a candy-apply-red convertible Ford Mustang, instead of the "intermediate-car auto" that I booked. It's actually kind of a fun car to drive, and I've even had the top (power) down a couple of times.

Of course, this morning, I got to scrape frost off the windshield with my room key -- apparently they don't think its late enough in the year for a scraper, or they don't think to put one in a convertible at a rental agency.

The last time I got a Mustang it sucked - it was rainy and I was driving on twisty roads. That Mustang DID NOT LIKE curves. I've had smoother turning boats (with a smaller turn radius). I think it would be good driving across the prairies though.

This Mustang isn't, actually, too bad at cornering -- and does a far better job of it than the SUV, which was my other choice.

Mustangs, though, have always been muscle cars, not sports cars.
