Made it to Detroit
May. 2nd, 2004 11:09 pmI made it to Detroit. Kinda nasty driving (well, not compared to winter, but...), due to rain, heavy at times, and stop-and-go traffic for much of the western half of Toronto. It is Sunday! Stop-and-go traffic is for rush-hour on weekdays, not for Sundays. Gads, why would anyone want to live in Toronto?
Had a nice meal with
horsetraveller, despite the fact that nobody suggested a useful restaurant to us. We were stuck with Eastside Marios, in Waterloo. Ok, the company was nice, the meal was acceptable. Thank you for meeting me, and thank you to your client for not interrupting us.
I got the "turn left, with orange sticky on windshield" for extra questioning at the border... but after a few more questions, was sent on my way without any additional paperwork. Twice in a row, now, though I seem to have chosen the slowest line. Oh well.
And, as is probably obvious, have also made it to my hotel which has high-speed internet. I have made the desire for high-speed interenet at my hotels known to the travel coordinator. This should help to make the occurrence of it far more common in the future. :)

Date: 2004-05-03 04:38 pm (UTC)Was that aimed at me? Let's try: (1) don't like to drive, (2) great public transportation, (3) amazing restaurants, (4) lots of cool concerts and, best of all (5) lots of cool people.

Oh, sorry, were you looking for a restaurant? I've been offline. Give me a call next time. Or email me a couple of days in advance, just in case.
Hope you're having a good time in Detroit.

That was only mildly aimed at you. It was mostly aimed at all the bloody people on the 401 at 3pm on a Sunday, who were causing me to experience stop&go traffic on my way to here.
Personnally, I don't think I would want to live in Toronto, but I can understand wanting to live IN Toronto, I just really don't think I'd ever contemplate in living in Toronto suburbia. (Though, anything on the subway is, effectively, in Toronto.) There is lots of cool, interesting, stuff to do, and going on, and good people too. I just don't think I could afford to live in the style I've become used to in Toronto.
And, Detroit has been fine so far... had dinner & the earlier parts of the evening with a friend. Got things planned for a couple more evening, too.
