Holy food batman
Mar. 8th, 2013 08:56 pmI think I'm going to explode.
I ordered the daily menu for dinner today, plus a 1/2 bottle (375 ml) of wine to go with. Wow, that's a lot of food. I think I may have eaten 2+ full meals, plus dessert.
Appetizer: thinly sliced cured meats.
Salad: salad bar
1st course: heaping plate of penne with a delicious tomato sauce with ham chunks in the sauce. Full meal worth of pasta & sauce.
2nd course:a dinner plate full with: 2 breaded veal cutlets, home fried potatoes with rosemary (yummy yummy potatoes), and a salad of (bitter) greens and sliced cherry tomatoes. Yes, this plate was, also, a full meal in and of itself.
Dessert: I was offered sliced pineapple with Italian liqueur, two different types of ice cream, and something in Italian that I'd never heard of, but which the server said was delicious. I chose that. Hey... if you can't be adventurous for dessert, when can you? He than offered to have coffee poured over it (said it was called... "dieing under water", I offered "drowning", he said... yes, that's it), so I said yes to that, too. It was delicious -- the core dessert was kind of ice creamish, with nutty flavours, and the sharp/bitterness of the coffee poured over it complemented it very nicely.
Now, I'm stuffed. Really stuffed. Truly stuffed. I may never be able to climb again stuffed.
And, having had coffee at night, I may not sleep either. Well, maybe I'll have to nap on the plane tomorrow, or something.

Europe: land of the tolls
Mar. 8th, 2013 09:29 pmI drove from Lyon to Parma on Sunday. (Ok, technically, I drove from Ecully, France to Monticelli Terme, Italy.) This was a distance of about 565 km, according to Google maps. Cost of gas for the trip -- I think about 90 Euro. Cost of tolls for the trip: about 95 Euro. (In $CDN, that comes out to about $130.)
