yay for climbing!
Apr. 27th, 2008 07:58 pmI did manage to get out climbing today! I got up way too early (around 7:30 - my last two Sunday mornings have NOT been good for sleeping in, both have been earlier than 8am), got my stuff together and then headed out to meet some other people at the Parkdale government buildings parking lot near the parkway, only to find that my left-rear tire was flat. I quickly changed it, and arrived about 5 minutes late, hoping they hadn't left without me. Luckily the prime organiser wasn't there yet, so I wasn't late. Unfortunately, he didn't arrive for another 20 minutes or so, and I could have gotten a bit more sleep.
We went up to Home Cliff, which I've climbed before, and did only routes in the main corner (mostly easy), but that was ok. I got to follow several routes and look at the gear placements and to play with setting some gear. It was a gorgeous day for climbing, too. No bugs (of the biting kind), near perfect temperature (just under 20 degrees C) and sunny. I did put on some sun screen, and I think I managed to avoid getting burnt.

Arrived in Shelton
Apr. 27th, 2008 11:54 pmIf I've ever called Ottawa International "podunk", it means I really didn't know what podunk means. Queretaro, Mexico airport was pretty small, but New Haven airport was even smaller. Ottawa has conveyor belts for the luggage, Queretaro had an oval of rollers, at New Haven they throw it through a door onto a slightly down-angled metal sheet.
And, the car rental didn't have any cars in my class so I got upgraded to a Mercury Grand Prix. Ugh, I hate it already. It is nice in ways I don't care about -- big, leather seats, fancy seat adjustment buttons. But not in the ways I do like -- nice stereo, multi-CD changer, active volume control, sound-system controls on the steering wheel, and lots of convenient storage areas around the driving area (for instance, a play to put my case of CDs). And, the keyless entry doesn't seem to be working either.
And, I seem to have forgotten the charger for my cell phone. Oops.
