day 2 in Texas
Sep. 25th, 2007 11:28 pmDay 2 of teaching done, things are going smoothly.
Yesterday evening got hold of Robyn and drove up to Leander to meet up with her. Spent a pleasant evening, and arranged to meet for dinner tomorrow.
The nearest restaurant -- in fact the only restaurant within easy walking distance since it is just across the parking lot -- is called Bone Daddy's. It has decent BBQ type food, quick service, and hot HOT waitresses dressed oh-so-scantily. I don't quite understand how they don't freeze though -- I get chilled in there wearing a long-sleeved shirt and long pants, and they're wearing far less than that.
Went climbing this evening at the Austin Rock Gym (http://www.austinrockgym.com/), their south gym. On their web site, they say the North Gym is more specialized in bouldering as compared to the South Gym, but I found the South Gym to be heavily bouldering oriented. About half their wall space is just bouldering, with a lot of bouldering routes scattered around their climbing walls, too. And, most of the people there were bouldering too -- with almost nobody climbing. At many times there was nobody doing routes, and the most I ever saw was one pair of climbers at any particular time. They did have nicely textured walls, with a lot of interesting features molded in.
So, I spent most of the evening (a couple of hours) bouldering, and now I've got about 10 new blisters. I stopped climbing when grabbing the holds hurt the skin on my hands too much.
I did some bouldering routes up to V3 -- what does that compare to for climbing routes? It is hard to tell. I go to one site, and it says V3 is about equal to a 5.10a, go another place and it says V3 is about a 5.11b. Of course, 5.10a one place doesn't equal a 5.10a somewhere else, either.
