Looking Back
Jan. 2nd, 2007 03:04 pmSome thoughts on the year in review...
Had a wonderful year of relationship growth with gabriel_le. I continue to be wonderfully happy to have her in my life. She was around much more than I expected, though the 6 weeks away on the trail were still rough.
I got addicted to Travian (www.travian.com), then kicked the addiction.
Work travel continued to be busy, but not as insane before I asked for a maximum travel rule from work, and my boss agreed, and my new boss, post-re-org accepted that agreement. No more than 2 weeks on the road, and at least two weeks at home between trips. (I am allowed to voluntarily over-ride this, should I choose.)
Only read 46 books of my 50 books in the year goal, though I did read all the issues of The Economist that came into the house cover-to-cover.
I took up rock climbing, at least of the indoor in a rock gym variety, and have been very happy with this. It is good for my fitness level, and I enjoy doing it. Also, it is a sport that provides lots of micro-rewards, making it easy to see progress, and this is very encouraging. (Micro-rewards -- getting one hold farther on a climb, doing a climb better/smoother/easier than last time, etc. As well as larger rewards, including climbing tougher ratings, etc.) I'm trying to get out climbing 2-3 times a week, even when I travel. And, it is interesting to compare the ratings and styles at different gyms in different areas as I travel, and gives me some nice variety in routes, too.
My game collection continued to grow, and I'm very excited that gabriel_le really likes gaming, too. And, she is also getting better at it.
I like my friends network, I have many good friends at a variety of levels. I've found a couple new ones, and reconnected with a few old ones, and that has been very good.
I didn't achieve elite status with any airline, due to the fragmentation of my air travel, but did do so with a number of hotel chains.
Ballroom dancing mostly fell by the wayside -- primary cause being travel and illness in the start of the year. Still, we did dance occasionally, and enjoy it.
