Home again and a weekend
Oct. 2nd, 2006 04:13 pmI got home around midnight Friday night, and got to see gabriel_le again. That was good.
Saturday, after sleeping in a bit, we picked up pezchica (and daughter) and off to Costco where I spent much of the afternoon being a consumer whore, and buying lots of stuff. Finally got myself an LCD monitor for my home system -- An Acer 19" one. Also some clothing, a really big, deep, frying pan that has been used for two different meals before the weekend was over, and a few other things. Then, after dropping pezchica (and daughter) back home, we went on to Lee Valley tools (present for my mom, spice rack for kitchen), and Ikea (furniture for bedroom storage of stuff) then back home. Then a productive evening, including much spice re-arrangement and other cupboard organising. Some have commented that gabriel_le seems to be nesting. :)
Sunday we'd planned a hiking trip around Wolf trail up in the Gatineaus, but the weather just wasn't up for it. We had 8 (and 1/9) potential hikers accumulated, but 3 and 1/9 decided to not hike due to weather or laziness or both. It was only misting, and iclydale claimed it was supposed to clear up, so we decided to head up to Gatineau park anyway, though not Wolf trail. We were planning to hike from Etienne Brule lookout to Western lodge and back -- maybe with some side detour for a bit more distance. By the time we got there, the mist had become rain so we hemmed and hawed and decided we'd take a short hike -- just 10 minutes or so, 4 of us in rain gear and ansfrid under an umbrella. (Other hikers were green_ogre and buttongirl.) Since we were just strolling, we left all of our food and water behind. After about 10-15 minutes it was clearing up and had mostly stopped raining... so we just kept hiking and ended up doing the Western lodge and back trip we'd originally planned -- though without the side trail for extra distance. It was, all in all, a pleasant walk in the woods, though nothing nearly as strenuous as the hike in the woods of two weekends ago when we did Wolf trail.
And, today, I spent much of the day fighting with the Symantec site to find a way to download the Symantec Ghost suite that we're going to use to keep the new computers for the classroom in a sane and stable state. Just too many hours burned on that. This week I also have to do that classroom setup, and pack up my cube for a move, which will be happening while I'm in California.
This evening, more house work with gabriel_le. Tomorrow (Tuesday), climbing with K8. Wednesday dinner with parents. Thursday, shop for a laptop bag? Friday, fly to Detroit for Conclave (must check for hotel shuttle from airport). Sunday, fly on to California, for two weeks in California.
