I made it out climbing this evening, meeting S's partner B at Coyote around 8pm. I haven't been out in a couple weeks, but I definitely felt like I was climbing better than the last time I was at Coyote -- of course, Coyote is the place we first went climbing, so it was my first try. Still, I did a route I remember having real problems with last time out, with what actually seemed like a fair bit of ease. Well, at least, the place I got stuck last time I did with ease -- I ran into a bit more difficulty farther up the climb. I got about an hour and a half of climbing in, before we both decided we were tired enough to stop. I definitely expect we'll be out again, after I get back from gallivanting -- and I'm tempted to look for climbing gyms various places along my travels.
ansfrid, I asked about 14 EEE shoes -- they said they had shoes up to size 14.5, but that width would be more of the issue. Climbing shoes are generally narrow, but you also generally wear a size or two down from regular shoe size, so it might be worth trying. Also, they mentioned that you can climb in running shoes which, of course don't have as much grip, and this would make things a bit more difficult, but may still be worth a try. I'll also ask at Vertical Reality, should I end up there in the next bit.
