I've been finding myself wishing for a many petalled flower (like a daisy), from which I could tear out each petal in turn, in an attempt at divination. Of course, this is followed by the immediate realisation that, even should this divination method be accurate, the information gleaned would be, at best, moderately useful, and maybe a starting point for a series of complex discussions, negotiations, and long round of "communicate, communicate, communicate". I then travel down the lane of (false) nostalgia, for the time when the result of said divination was all that was important, and everything would work out from there.

In other news, The Myth of Monogamy Fidelity in Animals and People by David P. Barash, Ph.D. and Judith Eve Lipton, M.D. is interesting and enjoyable reading.

Well, I didn't actually do it. Thinking of it as stooping to divination as a metaphor for a state of consciousness.

That better?

aye - but you did have me worried there for a sec (still do, just less so) - the post conveys despondency (or maybe I'm projecting...)

No, not despondency. I'm quite fine, but thank you for your concern.

Well, I don't actually know what you're confused by, or what you've found confusing, so I'm not sure I can elucidate.

I was looking for a deeper meaning that was not there.

Ah, no. Nothing like that at all. con_girl's post, below, catches what I meant. In more detail, you take a petalled flower (such as a daisy), pluck out a petal, and say "[s]he loves me", then another petal "[s]he loves me not", and continue around the flower until you run out of petals... the result on the final petal is the result of the divination. The [s]he in question was, generally, someone you "had a crush on", with all the age, and time, implications in the use of that particular phrase.

Does that clarify enough?
